:

;
OOlGJ/t

.

.

Progress on the SILT PROJECT is moving along according to schedule.

At Rifle Gap Dam, excavation for the spillway stilling basin, excavation

in borrow areas, placement of dam embankment, and concrete placement in

the outlet works tunnel lining continues.

.,
,
Work also moves ahead at a satisfactory rate on the Silt Pump Canal

and the Davie Ditch, Bid opening date for construction of the Silt'Pump-

ing Plantwas extended to September 16; award of contract is pending.

CRSP Reservoirs

Runoff of the Colorado River above Glen Canyon Dam totaled 11,810,000

acre-feet for the April through July period. Of this total about 6,400,000

acre-feet was released from lake I'bwell. This permitted lake Mead to

regain storage to rated head of the turbines by June 23. However, lake

Pbwell continued to rise and on August 10 reached its seasonal maximum

elevation of 3,533.90 feet m.s.l. with 8,715,000 acre-feet of surface

storage. Since August 10 the lake level has been receding about 0.25

foot per day and reached elevation of 3,529.59 feet m.s.l. with 8,430,000

acre-feet surface storage on September 14. The lake level will continue

to decline to an estimated elevation of about 3,523 feet by March 30,

1966.

Initial filling of Blue Mesa Reservoir is scheduled to begin in Octo-

ber. There is essentially no demand for irrigation water below the dam

during the winter, and, if 80,000 acre-feet can be made available from Taylor

Park Reservoir, Blue Mesa Reservoir could fill to minimum operating level

and the diversion tunnel closure could be made by January 1, 1966. Releases

would be made to meet the downstream demands throughout the winter months.

2
