<br />: <br /> <br />; <br />OOlGJ/t <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Progress on the SILT PROJECT is moving along according to schedule. <br /> <br />At Rifle Gap Dam, excavation for the spillway stilling basin, excavation <br /> <br />in borrow areas, placement of dam embankment, and concrete placement in <br /> <br />the outlet works tunnel lining continues. <br /> <br />., <br />, <br />Work also moves ahead at a satisfactory rate on the Silt Pump Canal <br /> <br />and the Davie Ditch, Bid opening date for construction of the Silt'Pump- <br /> <br />ing Plantwas extended to September 16; award of contract is pending. <br /> <br />CRSP Reservoirs <br /> <br />Runoff of the Colorado River above Glen Canyon Dam totaled 11,810,000 <br /> <br />acre-feet for the April through July period. Of this total about 6,400,000 <br /> <br />acre-feet was released from lake I'bwell. This permitted lake Mead to <br /> <br />regain storage to rated head of the turbines by June 23. However, lake <br /> <br />Pbwell continued to rise and on August 10 reached its seasonal maximum <br /> <br />elevation of 3,533.90 feet m.s.l. with 8,715,000 acre-feet of surface <br /> <br />storage. Since August 10 the lake level has been receding about 0.25 <br /> <br />foot per day and reached elevation of 3,529.59 feet m.s.l. with 8,430,000 <br /> <br />acre-feet surface storage on September 14. The lake level will continue <br /> <br />to decline to an estimated elevation of about 3,523 feet by March 30, <br /> <br />1966. <br /> <br />Initial filling of Blue Mesa Reservoir is scheduled to begin in Octo- <br /> <br />ber. There is essentially no demand for irrigation water below the dam <br /> <br />during the winter, and, if 80,000 acre-feet can be made available from Taylor <br /> <br />Park Reservoir, Blue Mesa Reservoir could fill to minimum operating level <br /> <br />and the diversion tunnel closure could be made by January 1, 1966. Releases <br /> <br />would be made to meet the downstream demands throughout the winter months. <br /> <br />2 <br />
