The Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation), Fish and Wildlife Service <br />(Service), and a state agency if appropriate, will establis~and maintain <br />approximately 50 to 100 project area humpback chubs at an appropriate <br />lower basin facility to guard against a decimating catastrophic or chronic <br />event in the Little Colorado River or Colorado River. <br /> <br />B. Discussion <br /> <br />These individuals or their progeny could also provide laboratory specimens <br />that may be necessary for conservation measure studies and, if <br />appropriate, individuals for reintroduction purposes. Recommendations <br />from the Service's endangered fish cuHurists in Den\'er and Dexter <br />National Fish Hatchery will be used to determine the protocol for <br />selecting and maintaining the stock. <br /> <br />C. Timing and Funding <br /> <br />The procurement ot the necessary individuals is anticipated 'to occur <br />within the first year when researchers are in the field for other study <br />activities.
