G:>
I;\J
00 32
CO)

RIO GRANDE COMPACT COMMISSION REPORT

"
'- ,,:

ACCURACY OF RECORDS

'-

The Rules and Regulations of the Commission state that the equipment,
method, and frequency of measurement at each gaging station shall be
sufficient to obtain records at least equal in accuracy to those classified
as "good" by the U.S. Geological Survey. Within the physical limitations
of stream gaging, the agencies obtaining the records at Compact gaging stations
have complied with these regulations.

The station description states the degree of accuracy of the records.
"Excellent" indicates that, in general, the error in the daily records is
believed to be less than 5 percent; "good" less than 10 percent; "fair" less
than 15 percent; and "poor" probably more than 15 percent. The records of
monthly runoff are, in general, more accurate than the daily records. These
standards of accuracy are the same as those followed by the U.S. Geological
Survey.
