OC23?7

CHAPTER III

POTENTIAL IRRIGATION DEVELOPMENT

.

Land Selection

The comparati ve cost of required di stri bution systems for serving
various land areas .was one of the major factors used in selecting the
project lands for the various irriā¬11tion plans. Preliminary studies indi-
cated that a project area of about 3,600 acres would be the most econom-
ically justifiable scale of development. It was found that lands near
the head of the project along 0 'Neal Creek and in O'Neal Park together
with small blocks of land that could be served under extensions from the
Stevens irrigation system could be served at the least cost. These lands
are identified on the frontispiece map.

The presently irrigated lands at Stevens Ranch were not included as
a part of the project. If it should be found that these lands need a
small amount of supplemental water, however, they could be included in
the pr0je~t in lieu of some of the more isolated new lands on an equiva-
lent w~~er s'xpp~y exchange basis.

The table below shows by township and range the irrigable lands
tentatively selected for the adopted plan.

.

Irrigable land tentatively selected for development
(Unit--acres)
Location NOnirrigated!!
Township rtange class 2 land 1
35N.2W. 450
35 N. ~ w. 50
35N.3W. 670
36N. ~w. 800
36 N. 3 W. 1,580
37N. ~w. 50
Total ~
Y Based on 1933 reconnaissance survey in
which all lands were classified as class 2.

Water Supply

Available Supply

.

The estimated runoff at the points of diversion to the Perry Draw
Inlet Canal, as developed in the tables on pages 13 and 14, was reduced
by the allowance for senior water rights shown on page 27. The result-
ing flows, which average 44,570 acre-feet annually, are shown in the
table on the following page. Of this amount 40,560 acre-feet would occur
from April through October when the inlet canal was considered to be
operative.

23
