OG3326

.

.

.

CHAPTER III

POTENTIAL ffiRIGATION DEVELOPMENT

costs were used with the quantities obtained from these curves to
reflect October 1955 prices.

The costs of Ant Hill Canal, O'Neal Park Canal, and the main lat-
erals were based on the ali8llDlent and sections obtained from aerial
photos. Typical sections were designed to fit the required capacities.
and the same procedure used in estimating the cost of Perry Draw Inlet
Canal was then employed to obtain a total cost of the canals exclusive
of structures. Costs of turnouts. checks. and division boxss were esti-
mated from typical structures on the basis of information from '!Quantity
Estimates for Structures" prepared by Region 6, Billings, Mont., and
reprinted by the Commissioner's Office. Denver. Colo.. SepteJllber 1955.

Fam lateral and drainage costs were not estimated in detail but
are based on estimated average per acre costs for comparable projects.

The operation. maintenance, and replacement costs were estimated
at the projected long-tenn future price level considered to average
175 percent of 1940 prices. These costs, which average $2.40 per acre,
were estimated on the basis of the estimated construction costs, lengths,
and capacities of the variouB project features in accordance with Bureau
procedures for reconnaissance studies.

The estimated costs of the various project features are summarized
in the table below.

Estimated costa

Construction
cost
a9l.000
471.000

Annual-
operation,
maintenance.
and
replacement
costs
3970
3.460

Feature
Piedra Diversion Dam
Perry Draw Inlet Canal
Perry Draw Dam and
Reservoir
Outlet canals and
main laterals 142,000 1,310
Sublaterals 164.000 1.510
Drains 55.000 510
Total JJ2 0 000 8 0
1 Does not include $16,000 already expended for investi-
gations from the nonrei\lmbursable Colorado River Development
Fund.

1,136,000

1.010

22
