o

t:.~,
CJ1
00

Series Number
of
Graphs

Description

LB

44

Details consumptive uses and losses in the lower basin by type
of use, sub-basin, and State. The data for these graphs are
from Tables LC-4 through LC-8 of the Uses and Losses Reports.

LS

14

Summarizes uses in the lower basin by type of use and State,
Including main stem reservoir evaporation. The data for these
graphs are from Tables LC-l and LC-2 in the Uses and Losses
Reports.

In the un series, pie charts have been included (UB-36 through UB-38) to
summarize upper basin consumptive uses and losses, by year and type of use.

In the LS series, the years 1971 through 1975 are often empty; however, for those
years, it cannot be assumed that the actual consumptive use for the identified
type of use is zero. The first Uses and Losses Report did not incorporate as
much summary data in the lower basin as did the later two reports. Similarly,
the first five years in this series may not be comparable because not all
consumptive use categories were included.

Data Inconsistencies

The attached graphs suggest that inconsistencies occur in the data used in the
current and past Uses and Losses Reports, This is evident through patterns and
trends see~ in the graphs. To demonstrate the concept of interpretation through
graphical analysis, the following is a discussion of several graphs.

Graph LB-28 and the chart which
represents municipal and industrial
consumptive uses (urban, rural, and
industrial) on the Gila River from
1971 through 1985 (Figure 1), is an
example of graphical data that can be
explained, Although the trend from
1971 to 1985 is upwa~d, expected
variations exist between years such
that a true straight-line relationship
does not exist. This suggests that a
discrete analyses of consumptive uses
have been made for each year,

MUNICIPAL AND IND.
