nn0351

.

of record was 1932 through September 1938. The USGS determined that condi-

tions were not favorable at this site for accurate measurements and the station

was abandoned in 1938.

Mancos River near Cortez

The gage was located 0.8 mile upstream from the mouth of Johnson Canyon,

with a 302 square mile drainage area. The period of record was July 1976 through

June 22, 1979. Records are considered to be good (less than 10 percent error

in the daily records), except those for the winter period which are poor (greater

than 15 percent error). Flows at the gage are affected by irrigation diversions

for about 11,500 acres, reservoir storage, and municipal diversions.

.

Mancos River below Johnson Canyon

In June 1979, the gage located upstream of Johnson Canyon was moved

to a new site 0.1 mile downstream of Johnson Canyon. The drainage area is

320 square miles. Records were maintained for the period of June 1979 through

September 1982. Records are considered to be good, except those for the winter

period which are poor.

Mancos River near Towaoc

The gaging station is located 0.1 mile upstream from the bridge on U.S.

Highway 666, two miles north of the Colorado-New Mexico state line. The

drainage area is approximately 550 square miles. Records are available for

the period of 1920 through 1943 and February 1951 through 1985. Records are

considered to be good, except for the winter period, which are poor. Flows

at the gage are affected by irrigation, reservoir storage, and municipal diversions

above the station.

La Plata River near Hesperus

The gage is located just downstream of the bridge on U.S. Highway 160.

The drainage area is approximately 37 square miles. Records are available

for the period of 1918 through 1985. Records are generally considered by the

.

-5-

k _.;
