An
Information Packet describing these alternatives was prepared and publ ic
meetings were held in November 1981. After the pUblic meetings a decision
was made on which alternatives should receive more detailed study.

Since November 1981, further cost estimates and envi ronmenta 1 eva 1 uat ions
have been conducted. Using this information the number of alternative
plans have been reduced to two. The comparison of these two alternative
plans is the topic of this Information Packet. After public comment has
been received, the plan that will be identified as the agency proposed
action in the planning reportlenvironmental impact statement (PR/EIS) will
be selected.

Following identification of the proposed action, specific mitigation plans
will be developed and a PRIEIS prepared. The draft PRIEIS is scheduled for
filing with the Environmental Protection Agency in November 1984 and the
final in August 1985. A final decision will not be made earlier than 30
days following the filing of the final PR/EIS. Construction could begin in
late 1985 with water deliveries beginning in 1991.

COORDINATION WITH LOCAL WATER USERS AND INTERESTS

Southern Arizona Water Resources Association (SAWARA)

The SAWARA, formed in 1982, is a non-profit group composed of water users
and interests in Pima County. Its goal is to provide an organized effort
toward the long term supply and effective management of water resources in
the Tucson area.
