A-
mong these features are 1200 baud data transmission to in.
crease system capacity, error detection for eliminating
.spurious. data, a low batlery warning to prevent data loss,
and a synthesized VHF radio lor greater convenience in
installation, maintenance and spares inventories. In
addition. the S8SA/B is compatible wrth existing ALERT
networks.

.

300/1200 Baud. As systems grow and more sen.
sors are added, the ability to choose a higher baud rate
reduces the probability allosing a sensor report due to
interference with another transmission on ths same
frequency. A 1200 baud rale shortens the message length
over 50%, thus allowing more sensor reports to be trans-
mitted on the assigned ALERT frequency. For compatibility
with existing 300 baud rale systems, the unit can be
switched to the lower rale.

Error Detection. Radio frequency interference may
cause .spurious. dala 10 appear in ALERT data bases.
Deleting this data takes many hours of scanning and
editing. The error delec1ion mode eliminates garbled data

. 300 or 1200 Baud High speed reduces data "hits. dua to inter-
ference betweeen transmitters. Expands
number of sensor repolls per frequency.

Error Detection Eliminates .spurious. data to minimize time
consuming editing 01 data base.

Low Battery
Warnlng!1nhlblt

Warns user of potential loss 01 data. Pre-
vents damage to batteries.

Synthesized VHF
Radio

Mu~i-channel VHF radio can be used any-
where in ALERT system. Minimizes spare
parts inventory and speeds up availability
01 new at spare units.

Expandable
Analog Interface

Allows sensor expansion lor multiple uses
such as weather, airlwatet quality, etc.

from cluttering the data base.

low Ballerv Warnlna'lnhlblt. If batteries are
low and are not replaced, or are not being provided an ade-
quate recharge, data can be lost. A "Low Battery. message
is received at the Base Station to give sufficient time to
change or recharge batteries. In addition, operation is
automatically inhibited if vo~age fans below a level which
would permanent!y damage the batteries.

Network Status Transmissions. In addition to
battery voltage, information is sent to the Base Station to
indicate if the data transmitter is operating properly. This
is transmitted eve!)' 12 hours. or 255 transmissions. along
with Ihe number 01 transmissions sent from the remole sile
since the last status check.

Svntheslzed VHF Radio. The HANDAR synthe-
sized radio provides lor hardware switching of all available
radio channels without crystal changing. Spare parts in-
ventories are red;Jced since one mu~i-channe' dala trans-
mitler can be used anywhere in a system. Long lead time
for spares is significantly reduced.
