<br />OOiJ031 <br /> <br />Mechanized equipment will be used under emergency conditions. The <br />use of machinery and chemicals to control wildfire is permissible <br />if there are serious threats to lives, property, or irreplaceable <br />wilderness resources. Helicopter evacuation of human wastes from <br />vault toilets could be authorized if this is determined to be the <br />minimum tool necessary to accomplish the management need and to <br />protect the resource and the wilderness user. The Environmental <br />Protection Agency and the related State agency will be consulted to <br />assure compliance with State and Federal standards in compliance <br />with Executive Order 11507. <br /> <br />The levels of use and the condition of natural resources in the <br />proposed wilderness will be monitored more closely by management <br />personnel to determine if irreparable damage is being caused by <br />overuse. If further restrictions are necessary in order to protect <br />the integrity of the natural systems, they will be established and <br />enforced. <br /> <br />In accordance with Executive Order 11593, Protection and Enhancement <br />of the Cultural Environment, the master plan recommends an archeo- <br />logical survey to locate former Indian sites and trails. This will <br />help to assure that no newly established or relocated designated <br />campsites will alter or destroy any significant cultural resourceS. <br /> <br />27 <br />
