OOiJ031

Mechanized equipment will be used under emergency conditions. The
use of machinery and chemicals to control wildfire is permissible
if there are serious threats to lives, property, or irreplaceable
wilderness resources. Helicopter evacuation of human wastes from
vault toilets could be authorized if this is determined to be the
minimum tool necessary to accomplish the management need and to
protect the resource and the wilderness user. The Environmental
Protection Agency and the related State agency will be consulted to
assure compliance with State and Federal standards in compliance
with Executive Order 11507.

The levels of use and the condition of natural resources in the
proposed wilderness will be monitored more closely by management
personnel to determine if irreparable damage is being caused by
overuse. If further restrictions are necessary in order to protect
the integrity of the natural systems, they will be established and
enforced.

In accordance with Executive Order 11593, Protection and Enhancement
of the Cultural Environment, the master plan recommends an archeo-
logical survey to locate former Indian sites and trails. This will
help to assure that no newly established or relocated designated
campsites will alter or destroy any significant cultural resourceS.

27
