STATE/REGIONAL PLANNING OBJECTIVES <br /> <br />The Missouri basin's state/regional planning objectives are intended <br />to outline those broad social, economic and environmental goals to which <br />the citizens of the region aspire which will require or influence water and <br />related land resource planning, management, development, utilization and <br />conservation. The future trends, goals and objectives are probably more ' <br />definitively indicated by the numerical projections of socio-economic charac- <br />teristics, land use and water use shown in Table series SRF-l, -2 and -3. <br />Following are ASA summaries of planning objectives based upon recent states' <br />inputs and statements contained in the 1971 Missouri River Basin Comprehensive ',' <br />Framework Study: ' <br /> <br />ASA's 01, 02, 03 <br /> <br />3. Reduce flood damages through structural and nonstructural projects <br />and programs. <br /> <br />4. Expand irrigation for increased production. <br /> <br />5. Improve agricultural practices such as land treatment, farm ponds, <br />erosion control, drainage and flood control. <br /> <br />Environmental Objectives <br /> <br />1. Protect and enhance the fish and wildlife resources. <br /> <br />2. Conserve the unique scenic, historical, archaeological and cultural <br />resources of the area. <br /> <br />3. 'Reclaim mined lands. <br />4. Require proper wastewater management and air quality maintenance. <br /> <br />ASA 04 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Social Objectives <br /> <br />1.
