a

....-.

.

Loveland Mountain Park, located in the scenic Big Thompson Canyon,

~~ and developed in cooperation with the National Park Service during the
(J'
~) Civilian Conservation Corps Program provides picnic grounds, shelters,
N

.", . '::~.:>:" ,'";

and sanitation facilities.

Carter Lake Reservoir and Flatiron Afterbay are two other

as a part of the Colorado-Big Thompson Project.

V ANALYSIS OF RECHEATIONAL VALUES

A. Scenic and Hecreational Values

1. Prepl'oiect V').11!..es

Hattlesnake Heservoir site lies at the edge of a scenic section

of the Hocky lilountains. It might ,be said that the reservoir forms a minor

gateway to the more scenic sections of the foothills lying to the west.

The present value of the site lies in the passive recreational value

derived from passing through an area of wooded slopes and grassy meadows

ornamented with natural, wild flowers.

The area i.nvolved in the reserVoir site and. surrounding slopes is

too small to have any appreciable significance recreationally. Its valuo

is based on the fact that it is a part Of a larger area containing

appreciable recreatiomd value.

2.' Postproiect Values

The creation of the reservoir will result in a body of water

having a pleasant setting, and will' be more attr2ctive than the present

valley floor, especially since the reservoir fluctuation win probably be

held to 6 feet.

10

"';,'

"""',.

,"',",''<

',"-,:,.,:',:

.,.:--:>"< :~-.

;:' ;;:'.

'.~ : c. _'

--','

""~ -""-.

::'

':.~
"
v

;,>
!-~~
::.>.
:,:,.}
.,,~,
~:.:
'.~
~',.'

2 ~.

'-~-.,_;;ii'~"<,<.'

+~.
,-:.;"
.....",......,.,.

., ,'.,-',-
