<br />FroOLthe CCI)e.raLManagcr <br /> <br />To all OUf dedicated customers and community stakeholders: <br /> <br /> <br />Once again, the \Vater Authont)-' has completed a groundbreaking year in <br />its long-term management of Las Vegas' most precious resource-water. <br />The SN\VA is the resuh of the combined strength of all of its member <br />agencies. Its success is due to the active participation of Boulder City, <br />Clark County, Henderson. Las \{-gas and North Las Vegas. \\lithin these <br />entities lies the \15100 of this agency. <br /> <br />Year 2000. our ninth year of operation. was filled ""11h challenges and exceptional opportunities. In <br />meeting its goals. the SI\WA demonstrated the value of careful planning, superior technical staff and a <br />strong organizational commitment 10 excellence. \V{' achieved several major resource goals, including the <br />completion of a plan to manage and preserve the Las Vegas Wash, the implementation of the Las Vegas <br />Valley Groundwater f\.1anagement Program and the acquisition of additional water rights to diversify our <br />portfolio of water resources. <br /> <br />It was a year in which we acti\'c1y negotiated solutions that "'ill strengthen Southern Nevada's \\-'ater <br />picture for decades to come. In a landmark decision. ....'e reached an agreement that will help California <br />reduce its use of Colorado River water. This agreement will provide a stronger guarantee of water <br />resources for future generations in Southern Nrvada and in our neighboring states along the Colorado, <br />In another milestone. we initiated talks with Arizona on Nevada's participation in the Ariz_ona <br />Groundwater Bank. \Ve met with representatin's of several rural Nevada counties to resolve conn'rns <br />related to water filings within those counties. \'{Ie also were actively involved in emironmental issues. <br />\Vhether il was cleaning up the Las \I(.gas "'ash or addressing concerns along the Mexican Delta, the <br />Water Authority was at the forefront. working to protect our emironment. <br /> <br />It was also a year in which our treatment and engineering staff continued to ensure the- reliable deli\'ery <br />of dean and safe water 10 the residents of the Las \I(.gas Valley. In 2000. the S!\;'\\:lA $2.1 billion <br />Capital Improvements Program completed its fifth year of construction acli\ily "ith several new <br />pumping stations in place. miles of new pipeline in the ground. and additionallreatmrnt and <br />transmission facilities under construction. <br /> <br />In short. it was a year of successes. great and small. As we srt the stage for the coming fiscal year. when <br />S~'\VA will mark its tenth annivef:l.ary as an agency, I want to thank the community and the staffs of <br />our seven member entities for their continued support. \'\~thout your help, '....e could not have <br />accomplished so much in such a short time.
