Their classification and capability information studies, whenever

ayailable, were used as guides for all land within the subject areas. Additional

basic data was obtained from owners and tenants as to the quality of soils, produc-

tivity, experience, hazards, cropping practices, drainage problems and adequacy

of irrigation water and the operation of pump irrigation systems.

Our classification of land assigned the individual parcels was based on our

personal inspection and analysis.
Description of Classes
The primary elements in the determination of the various classes of land

were as follows:

Irrigated Land
. Land irrigated by flood irrigation from canals and ditches is divided into

four classes. Briefly, the determining factors were:

Class I

Deep medium textured soils - good permeability and water holding

capacity - high productivity and fertility - reasonably level topography - not

J
