Species Analysis and Selection <br /> <br />Emerrent halophytes applicable to STEP process operations <br />aust produce and function within Glenwood Sprinrs saline <br />waters. accept extended periods of inundation, and produce <br />a product for which there is an existinr aarket, Spartina <br />alterniflora (Smooth cordrrass) and Salicornia europa <br />(Perennial rlasswort) have been identified as species <br />believed to meet these requirements. as forare crops <br />consumable by livestock and wildlife. This task ia to <br />verify this belief. It is also to provide intromation on <br />alternative crops and applications. <br /> <br />The following activities are required: <br /> <br />o Collect seeds and stolons trol University of Delaware <br />and University of Arizona fara plots. <br /> <br />o Collect Glenwood Spri~rs water. <br /> <br />o Prepare planter boxes divided into 25-1 sq, ft. units. <br />till with appropriate soils. and plant, Also plant 1 <br />inch square plastiC trays filled with sand-rravel or <br />test soil.
