The docuaentation aust <br />include a rovern.ent ruarantee to reiaburse investors' costs <br />plus interest (12.5~ per annual in the event of unacceptable <br />deaonstration systea perforaance. <br /> <br />Task Description <br /> <br />I. Define System Parameters <br /> <br />Deter.ine objectives of demonstration facility and <br />critical parameter for species. systea <br />environ.ental considerations, water rirhts and <br />costs. <br /> <br />outline <br />desirn. <br />syste.. <br /> <br />II. Species Analysis and Selection <br /> <br />Emerrent halophytes applicable to STEP process operations <br />aust produce and function within Glenwood Sprinrs saline <br />waters. accept extended periods of inundation, and produce <br />a product for which there is an existinr aarket, Spartina <br />alterniflora (Smooth cordrrass) and Salicornia europa <br />(Perennial rlasswort) have been identified as species <br />believed to meet these requirements. as forare crops <br />consumable by livestock and wildlife. This task ia to <br />verify this belief. It is also to provide intromation on <br />alternative crops and applications. <br /> <br />The following activities are required: <br /> <br />o Collect seeds and stolons trol University of Delaware <br />and University of Arizona fara plots. <br /> <br />o Collect Glenwood Spri~rs water. <br /> <br />o Prepare planter boxes divided into 25-1 sq, ft. units. <br />till with appropriate soils. and plant, Also plant 1 <br />inch square plastiC trays filled with sand-rravel or <br />test soil. Inundate to 1 inch depth. <br /> <br />o Monitor geraination and survival. <br />draw-down and salinity over 3 lonth <br />greenhouse at Fed-Center, <br /> <br />rrowth. water <br />period in USBR <br /> <br />o Remove samples bi-weekly for proximate and ash analysis <br />using equipment available through the USBR. <br />
