WATER RESOURCES

"~,I
c.o
('1j
~ Water Quality
-t

Organic pollution

Question

What effects will the project have on organic pollution?

Answer

No significant increase in organic pollution is expected,
USGS water-quality records from the Lily gaging station,
54 miles downstream from Baggs, Wyo" show that organic
waste presently being introduced in the project area is
assimilated before it reaches the gaging station. With
the project, more cattle may be winter fed on the Little
Snake River but they will be located there a shorter period
of time than at present,

The potential for high waste loading from domestic waste
generated in the Baggs-Dixon area would be reduced, The
river presently has periods of extreme low flow and it is
not unusual for flows to be less than 2 second-feet in the
late summer months during dry years, The project would
greatly improve this situation because the flows in the
Little Snake River should not fall below 20 second-feet.

;"'.;':i

,-
