<br />ENVIRONMENTAL <br />ACTIVITIES <br /> <br /> <br />In fiscal year 1974. draft environmental <br />statements were initiated on Jensen <br />Unit of the Central Utah Project. and <br />on Dallas Creek. Dolores. and Fruitland <br />Mesa Projects in western Colorado. <br />Oral! environmental statements were <br />completed and filed with the Council on <br />Environmental Quality: for Utah Power <br />and light Company's second unit of <br />Huntington Canyon Generating Station; <br />and for the proposed sale of 125.000 <br />acre. feet 01 municipal and mdustrial <br />water Irom Fontenelle Reservoir to the <br />State of Wyoming. <br /> <br />Studies were initiated to determine the <br />environmental impacts on archeology, <br />fish, wildlife. recreation. and aesthetics <br />01 alternative dam and reservoir sites <br />for China Meadows Reservoir on the <br />Lyman Project. <br /> <br />The Bureau 01 Reclamation will be the <br />lead Federal agency in the writing 01 <br /> <br />6 <br /> <br />the environmental statements for both <br />EI Paso Natural Gas Company and <br />Western Gasillcation Company. Water <br />Will be supplied from the Navajo Reser. <br />vOir 10 both 01 these coal gasification <br />plants in the Four COrners area. The <br />statements are well on their way to <br />completion. <br /> <br />The Upper Colorado Region is assisting <br />the Bureau of Land Management in <br />review and preparation 01 draft envi. <br />ronmental statements on proposals for <br />coal.lired, thermal.electric generating <br />stations at KaiparOWits. Emery, Warner <br />Valley, and Intermountain Power Proj. <br />ect sites in the State of Utah. <br /> <br />On the Seedskadee Project, releases <br />from Fontenelle ReserVOir were regu. <br />lated to allow Fish and Wildlile Service <br />and the State of Wyoming to conduct <br />studies to determine the effects 01 var. <br />ious riverflows on downstream fishing. <br />It was concluded Irom these studies <br />that a joint Department of the Interior. <br />State of Wyoming reservoir operating <br />plan will have to be formulated for <br />Fontenelle Reservoir each year for the <br />ensuing years. which will have as one <br />01 its objectives the enhancement of <br />stream fishery, provided such regulation <br />does not interfere with other water <br />rights on the river. <br /> <br />REVEGETATION <br /> <br />A maJor revegetation effort was under. <br />taken on the Bonneville Unit of areas <br />previously dIsturbed by construction of <br />Starvation Dam. Soldier Creek Dam, <br />Water Hollow. and Layout Creek Tun. <br />nels. Eight hundred sixty. six acres of <br />land were seeded to a variety of <br />grasses, With a portion of that area also <br />planted with shrubs. A portable irriga. <br />lion system was acquired, set up, and <br />operated at the Starvation Reservoir <br />area to assist in the revegetation effort. <br />
