PaneI members were Jack
Barnett, Executive Director of the
Forum; Wes Hirschi, Assistant
Regional Director, Reclamation,
Salt Lake City; and Gary Gross, SCS
Assistant State Conservationist, Utah.

At the American Society of Civil
Engineers Conference, Durango,
Colorado, in July, Stan Gappa, Jack
Barnett, Ken Pitney, and ErroI Jensen
gave a panel presentation. A poster
session was also presented on the
Paradox ValTey deep welT injection
project.

At the Colorado, Utah, and
Wyoming SCS Tristate
Management Conference, Jack
Barnett; Jim Weston, ses, Roosevelt,
Utah; and Steve Chick, SCS, CoIorado,
served on a panel to discuss the
CoIorado River salinity program.

Reclamation and SCS jointly
prepared a Colorado River salinity
control exhibit that was on display at
the Colorado State Fair. About
25 exhibits were featured in the High
TechnoIogy BniIding to inform and
educate the public on water resources
issues. The water resources exhibit
has received praise as one of the most
interesting and educational events
ever at the Fair.

This summer J tours were held in
the Grand Valley, Big Sandy
River, and Lower Gunnison project
areas. These tours were heId to show
local farmers and other interested
persons the salinity controI actions
underway in these USDA projects.

The Big Sandy tour was spon-
sored by the Big Sandy ConservatIon

WYOMNG

UTAH

CALIF.

NEVADA

Price-Sin hh.l
RiVlr1

\"P'

Valley
Las Vegas 'Wuh

San Juan River

I\EW
/IE)(

Sdinity Control Units
. A variety of gated
pipe and concrete ditch surge systems
were demonstrated in the field by
salinity program participants, and

SCS hosted a fieId trip in
September to the Uinta Basin and
Price-San Rafael Rivers area for
EPA and FWS to observe USDA wet.
Iand and wiIdlife habitat activities
being impIemented under the salinity
control program.
