The
average salinity in 1989 was 695 mg/L at Imperial Dwn, up from 579 in 1986. In
January, the salinity Ievel rose to 757 mg/L. The January to July 1990 average is
711 mg/L at Imperial Dam.

Forum reviews salinity standards

A Report on the 1990 Reuiew, Water
Quality Standards for Salir,ity,
Co/crcuW Riuer System, was published
in May 1990 by the CoIorado River
Basin Salinity Control Forum. The
report reviews the plan of impIemen.
tation and the numeric standards as
required by Public Law 92-500, so that
the Basin States may continue to
develop their compact.apportioned
waters whiIe providing the best

practicabIe water quality in the
CoIorado River Basin.

Public meetings were heId at Price,
Utah, and Las Vegas, Nevada, to dis-
cuss the review. At these meetings,
oral statements were made, and writ-
ten comments were taken. The Forum
wilT aIso publish the Supplemental
Report that contains the statements
received.

>'~,'~';1 -~~
v~~
U.S. Department of tJ{pinteii~
B~uOf~tioA~~,., .
, , ," ' ,,1: W 't j
AQ~ReportoJi.tJ{e '..
Colo~do River Wate!', Quality .
Improvement Prog'ralh'" '

) ~

Utah rangeland effort
moves forward

The Utah Department of
Agriculture, BLM, Reclwnation, SCS,
and USGS joined forces in the spring
of 1990 to fund and staff a rangeIand
study tewn. The tewn has evaluated
and ranked the watersheds that are
contributing salt to the Colorado River.

Reports are now being prepared for
the watersheds that appear to have the
greatest potential for range improve-
ment to reduce salt loading. The first
draft report, prepared for the Sagers
Wash watershed, has been distributed
for comment. The tewn plans to com-
plete preparation of reports for the
high priority watersheds by ApriI 1991.

Advisory Council
meets in San Diego

The Colorado River Basin Salinity
Control Advisory Council met Tuesday,
October 23, at the Bahia Resort Hotel
in San Diego, California.

Elections were heId for Chairman
and Vice Chairman of the Advisory
Council. D. Larry Anderson was
eIected Chairman and C.
