<br /> <br />5 <br /> <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />1072 <br /> <br />Turquoise f.ake <br /> <br />On October 1, 1973, the Deginning of the water veal', Turquoise Lake <br />storage was 76,509 acre-feet. of that amount, 14,101 acre-feet was <br />owned bV ergr Steel Corporation; 8,276 acre-feetbv the Homestake Proj- <br />ect; 1,782 acre-feet bV the'High r,ine <;anal Company; 106 acre-feet bv <br />the.catlin Canal Company; and 52,244 acre-feet DV the Fryingpan-Arkansas <br />Prolect. <br /> <br />Of the 52,244 acre-feet of project water in Turquoise Lake, 1,719 acre- <br />feet was owed to Twin Lakes as part of project deliveries made from Twin <br />Lakes bv exchange due to channel limitations in Lake Fork below Sugar <br />Loaf Dam. <br /> <br />Tllere was 415 acre-feet remaininp; of the 11,000 acre-feet allotted in <br />1973 to be sold by the Southeastern Colorado hrater Conservancy District. <br />An additional 63 acre-feet of the allotted water was delivered in October <br />and the remaining 352 acre-feet was included in the 1974 allocation to <br />the District. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Between ,Tanuarv 7 and earlv flarch, 20,555 acre-feet of project water was <br />released from Turquoise Lake for storage in Pueblo Reservoir. An addi- <br />tional 5,863 acre-feet was borrowed from Twin 'Lakes for the same purpose. <br />An exchange of water with Twin Lakes was necessary because of problems <br />with ice in Lake Fork Creek and the Arkansas River below Sugar Loaf <br />Dam. This water was paid back along with other borrowed water at the <br />earliest opportunity. <br /> <br />A total of 33,830 acre-feet of water was imported by the project and <br />stored in Turquoise Lake. Of this amount, 18,600 acre-feet was made <br />available to the'Southeastern Colorado Water Conservancy District for <br />delivery to water users in the Arkansas Valley. <br /> <br />The summer of 1974 was relatively dry in the Arkansas Valley of Colorado. <br />Deliverv of water to the city of L<lrnar hegan in early ,Tune and to Colo- <br />rado Springs late in June. A large demand for irrigation water was <br />made in ,Tulv and earlv Aup;ust. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />At the end of Mav, Turquoise Lake storage was 69,135 acre-feet. Of <br />that amount, 14,647 acre-feet was owned hy Cr&r Steel corporation; <br />13,933 acre-feet bv Homestake Project; 778 acre-feet by High Line <br />Canal Company; 80 acre-feet bv Catlin Canal Company; and 39,697 acre- <br />feet by the rryinp,pan-Arkansas Project. Included in the project owner- <br />ship was 5,838 acre-feet of water owed to Twin Lakes. <br /> <br />At th~ end of the water y~ar,'September 30, there was 51,986 acre-feet <br />in storap;e in Turquoise Lake. Of this amount, 13,668 acre-feet was <br />owned bv Crgr Steel Corporation; 7,299 acre-feet by Homestake Project; <br />82 acre-feet bv High Line Canal Companv; 92 acre-feet by Catlin Canal <br />Comnany; and 30,845 acre-feet by the Frvingnan-Arkansas Pr04ect.
