The Amity Mutual Irrigation Company

1493

The flood control plan of the 0. S. Corps of Engineers Cor the Ar-
kansas River above John Martin Reservoir would shorten the river 22
miles between Pueblo and the John Martin dam. Deepening the chaMeI
would control phreatoph..rtes and conserve water and dykes would be con~
structed to control flood water. No organization has as :yet indicated they
were read..v or able to sponsor this manmouth project. as it would require
the expenditure of several million dollars.

The Trinidad project providing for the storing of 20,000 a.f. oC irriga-
tion water and flood control ror Trinidad win no doubt be pushed this
summer. No date has been set as to when they will be ready to begin
operation.

The Frying-Pan - Arkansas Rh'er project Is rated as about 30%
complete. \\'est slope Reservoirs were completed flrst. 'Tunneling under
the divide has progressed at a fair rate and they hope to let the contract
on the Pueblo Reservoir early this year. Some water from the 70,000 a.f.
trans~mountain project should be available for use by 1970 or earlY 1971.
Part of the repa, yment plan calls for the re-regulation of native waters of the
Arkansas River at the Pueblo Reservoir. This would mean the storing and
conserving 01. some water now used for v.inter irrigation by up stream
ditches. It should not mean the storing of flood waters that would normally
reach John Martin Reservoir, unless that Reservoir was filled.

Present prospects Cor irrigation water are not very bright. Winter
storage in the Great Plains Reservoirs has been practicalLy nil with very
little carr, yover and storage in John Martin of February 1 was onl.v 13.000
acre feet. Th.e snow pact<.. un u~ Arkansas Hiver watershed is reported to
be about 110% of normal, but the pack on the Purga!orie watershed Js only
about 75% of normal.

An examination of the budget prepared b,}' the Board of Directors
call s for expenditures about the same as last year,

A detailed report on the operation fI the A.mity system will be found
in the Superintendent's report together with details on the distribution of
ci. water and the need Cor improvements.

The report of our Secretary shows in detail cash receipts al1d dis-
bursements as well as the budget prepared by the Board of Directors Cor
the coming year.

The books and accounts of the Compatl}' have been oCfic1ally audited
and a report will be available at the annual meeting.

I want to again thank the employee s, directors and stockholders for
their hearty cooperation throughout the year.

RespecUully submitted,
Harry C.
