i ;4

The modernization of the irrigation facilities has enabled

the District to provide full irrigation deliveries through-

out the service area. In addition, the modern facilities

will lower operating costs and at the same time allow the

District to operate the facilities more efficiently with

less ~anpower. The costs of currently planned i~provements

exceeds $26 million with over $20 million in costs financed

by a loan from the United States Government.

During the initial studies of adding additional generating

capacity in 1973, the project was only marginally feasible.

However, the rapidly escalating cost of fossil fuels since

the fall of 1973 has caused the United States to put greater

emphasis on hydropower. Because the District had the

foresight to finance the Kingsley hydro project, it will be

on line early in the 1980's and will help lessen dependence

on oil imports.

-21-
