<br />Parker Dam, located 155 miles below Hoover Dam, with a usable <br /> <br />o <br />w <br />o <br />w~ <br /> <br />reservoir capacity of 619,000 acre-feet, 'first impounded water in <br />June 1938. This is the diversion point on the river for the <br />Colorado River aqueduct of the Metropolitan Water Diptrict of <br />! <br /> <br />$outhern California. <br />I <br />I Between the two, Davis Dam, located 67 miles below Hoover Dam, <br />~ith a usable reservoir capacity of 1,810,000 acre-feet, reregulates <br />I <br />I <br />releases from Hoover Dam to conform to downstream water use re- <br />i <br />I <br />~uiremer>i:s including the requirements of the 11exican Treaty. It <br />I <br />I <br />~irst impounded water in Janua,r.y 1950. <br />There are five additional diversion dams on the river in the <br /> <br />Lower Basin: <br /> <br />(1) Headgate Rock Dam, located 15 miles below Parker <br /> <br />Da~m, diverts water to the Colorado River Indian Reservation; <br /> <br />(2) Palo Verde Dam, located .42 miles belm" Headgate <br /> <br />Rock Dam, was completed in 1957 to divert water to the Palo <br /> <br />Verde Irrigation District; <br /> <br />(3) Imperial Dam, located 90 miles below Palo Verde <br /> <br />Dam, serves as the diversion point for the All-American Canal, <br /> <br />and the Yuma and Gila projects; <br /> <br />(4) Laguna Dam, located 5 miles below Imperial Dam, <br /> <br />which once served as the diversion point for the Yuma and <br /> <br />North Gila Valley projects, is no longer in operation; <br /> <br />(5) Morelos Dam, located on tlie river below California <br /> <br />on the Arizona-Mexico boundary, serves as the diversion point <br /> <br />for the Mexican Canal, thus supplying irrigation ..,ater to the <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />Mexicali Valley. <br /> <br />37 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />1<, <br /> <br />;i.,.." <br /> <br />& <br />
