The irrigated acreage from W~ter <br /> <br />Commissioner's reports is considerably higher than the 8,408 acres <br /> <br />carried on the tax rolls as irrigated. The irrigated acreage re- <br /> <br />ported by the Water Commissioner has declined steadily from 18,351 <br /> <br />acres in 1929 to 13,794 acres in 1938. Acreage reported each year <br /> <br />of the period, by crops, is given in table 2 under "Crops". A <br /> <br />large part of the area irrigated, including the irrigated pasture, <br /> <br />gets only one early irrigation. Farm tenure reflects the general condition <br /> <br />of the community. A large percentage of the farms is operated by <br /> <br />renters and tenants; a few of the owners rent land in addition to <br /> <br />their own.
