<br />01:sn <br /> <br />Summary <br /> <br />Scenic <br />Resources <br /> <br />Concern regarding impacts to visual quality were expressed by the public. A request for an analysis of <br />potential visual impacts for each alternative was requested. A request was made to maintain the character <br />of the resort by preserving the visual quaJi'Y a3WCiated with Loge Peak; the views from the Olympic chair; <br />the uncluttered views onto Maroon and Highland bowls from Aspen Mountain, Buttermilk and Snowmass; <br />the low.pace, local area atmosphere of the mountain; and the local area Quality of the old base lodge. <br />Minimization of tree culling associated with construction of proposed trails and lift facilities was also <br />suggested. <br /> <br />COMMENTS ON THE DRAFT EIS <br /> <br />The Draft EIS for the Aspen Highlands Ski Area (USDA-FS 1996) was released and distributed on <br />September 30, ]996. The Notice of Availability appeared in the Federal Register on October 4, 1996, <br />initiating the fonnal comment period on the Draft EIS. Following the release of the Draft EIS, a public <br />review/comment session was held at the Pitkin County Library on October 29, 1996. Consistent with <br />NEPA regulations (40 CFR 1503.4(b)), only substantive comments on the Draft EIS received a response. <br />Substantive comments included those which challenged the infonnation in the Draft ElS as being <br />inaccurate or inadequate, or which offered specific infonnation that may have a bearing on the decision. <br />Comments received on the Draft EIS and the response to those comments are found in Appendix D of <br />the Final EIS. <br /> <br />LIST OF PERMITS AND ApPROVALS <br /> <br />A list of agencies which administer penn its or approvals which may be needed by the proponent is <br />provided in the Final EIS. Other penn its may be required depending on what specific development is <br />approved and the regulatory processes in effect at the time of construction.
