MEMORANDUM

DIR \
SC
i
ASC ,
-,
F I
I ,
L I
E I

OD0328

TO: Ray Tenney
FROM: Chuck Brendecke
SUBJECT: Progress Report for July - Elkhead Feasibility Study
DATE: August 6, 1993

,
Our July work included efforts directed at Tasks 3,4,6 and 7. c,~,
/
Charges to Task 3 include professional services related to the aerial photography and ';
mapping at the reservoir site. The ITS invoice included all of Phase I (photography and
ground control). ITS has informed me that the mapping will be completed by mid-August so I
expect the rest of their charges will show up on our next invoice.

Charges to Task 4 reflect the geotechnical and geophysical work done in June and July
at the dam site. Our invoice includes fees related to the geotechnical exploration plan and
supervision (Woodward-Clyde), the geophysical tests (Davenport-Hadley, partial), and
miscellaneous labor by Muller Engineering. At this point it appears the geotechnical and
geophysical field work is complete; we expect the reports to be available by the end of August.

Charges to Task 6reflect ongoing work on operations studies. A TSG meeting devoted
to this was held on Iuly 7; at this meeting theresults of preliminary model runs were reviewed
and additional model runs were specitied. We will be reviewing the results' of these new runs
at the August 18th TSG meeting in Glenwood.

Charges to Task 7 reflect initial tield work at the Elkhead site by our terrestrial
ecologist, Warren Keammerer. I have not spoken with Warren since he visited the site, though
I fully expect he would have contacted me had he found anything unexpected. I will provide a
synopsis of his investigations at the August 18th meeting. .

I anticipate that by the end of August we will have the mapping and geotechnical reports
in hand to proceed with preliminary. design work. We should also be close to having final
definition of the new environmental baseline and contemplated draft.

Please feel free to call if you have any questions or comments on our July work effort.

cc: Bob Norman
Frank Akers
Bill Stanton

Hydrosphere Resource Consultants 1002 Walnut Suite 200 Boulder, Colorado 80302

O:\PROJECTS\'~l\OOI'PllaOAE~~\U"TITlEO CIl,MEa: "''JOU:>16.
