compilation.

Copies of the

NPDES permits listin9 is

available to any individual or agency by contacting the Forum

o
Ul
1\:'
c.o

off ice.

During the period of this report, the Forum determined

that amendments to the Salinity Control Act could streamline

Reclamation's program and expedite implementation of certain

units and make the program more cost effective. The Forum

has agreeded on legislative changes, which are in bill form,

and the states and the Executive Director are now working

with congressional and administrative leaders in an effort to

have the legislation introduced and passed into law.

Outlook for Meeting Standards
In the Future

The flow-weighted average annual salinity values

(calendar year) at Hoover, Parker and Imperial

DamS

decreased significantly because of the 1983 through 1987

record runoff. During this period of high runoff, salinity

concentrations decreased. However, with lower than average

flows in 1988 (estimated at 72 percent of normal), salinity

concentrations are showing some increases.

Implementation of federal salinity control activities

is continuing on the Grand Valley, Uinta Basin, and Paradox

Valley Units and onfarm salinity control activities are being

initiated in the Big Sandy River and Lower Gunnison Basin

Units. However, it will be a number of years before any

significant effects are felt at the three lower mainstem

stations.

-25-
