Both agencies will coordinate their <br />U1 <br />~ efforts with other entities involved in salinity control. <br />-J <br />The draft plan and EIS are scheduled for completion in 1989. <br /> <br />Lower Virgin River Unit (Reclamation) - A combined water <br />supply/salinity control project was under study in 1988. <br />Nevada Power Company's plans for construction of the Harry <br />Allen Power Plant have been deferred. Therefore, Nevada <br /> <br />power has elected not to provide any cost share funds at this <br /> <br />time. A plan formulation working document is being prepared <br /> <br />by Reclamation to document the studies to date. The <br />remainder of the study has been suspended. <br /> <br />Palo Verde Irrigation District Unit (Reclamation) <br />Reclamation officially concluded salinity control activities <br /> <br />in January 1988. A concluding report (letter) found that no <br /> <br />cost effective method of salinity control could be identified. <br /> <br />Bureau of Land Management <br />In 1988, the BLM's salinity control activities involved <br /> <br />implementation of erosion control practices in Colorado, <br /> <br />Utah, and Wyoming. In addition, an abandoned oil and gas <br /> <br />well was plugged. <br /> <br />BLM estimates these activities have <br /> <br />reduced the salt contribution to the River by over 365 <br /> <br />tons/year. As stated in its July 1, 1987 report to Congress, <br /> <br /> <br />the BLM goal is to identify and evaluate salinity control <br /> <br />issues through the Resources Management Planning Process. <br /> <br />-13- <br /> <br />l._., <br />
