scheduled to begin. It is anticipated that the testing will

start in late summer 1989.

Grand valley Unit (Reclamation-Department of Agricul-

o
CJ1
......
W

ture) - A construction contract for the West End Government

Highline Canal, Stage Two, was completed by

HAJCO
;

Construction, Inc., in late summer 1988.

The contract

consisted of about 7.2 miles of membrane-lined canal, 6.7

miles of detention ditch, wasteway channels, and other works.

A contract for the construction of the associated lateral

system improvements, about 17 miles in length, was awarded
and a notice to proceed was given to the contractor.

Wildlife replacement lands were purchased and land transfers

instituted with Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

USDA's onfarm and off-farm lateral improvements in Grand

valley have been accomplished through both the annual

practice cost-share provisions of the Agricultural
Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS), Agricultural

Conservation Program (ACP) and the Colorado River Salinity

Control Program (CRSC). The federal cost shares paid for

work completed to date have been over $10.8 million with land

users supplying almost $3.6 million. This represents a

total expenditure of over $14.4 million for onfarm and

lateral improvements for salinity control. Onfarm pipeline

installation and ditch lining accomplished in 1988 totalled

about 20 miles and 3 miles, respectively. The total work

accomplished thus far is approximately 198 miles of pipeline

-9-

.
