Crop distribution <br />and yields were based on assump.d condioions ,,1' a full supply with <br />minor vlater shortages, Project prices and costs were used (215:1910- <br />14-100). All costs) including interest on investments, taxes~ <br />insurance, depreciation and repair, and all other farm and production <br />costs were used, An annual family livll1f allowance (allowance for <br />farm family labor) of ~~2,250 WdS used. <br /> <br />Benefits <br /> <br />The direct, indirect, and public benefits ,,1' the salvaged <br />water were calculated by Bureau of rreclamation pr"cedures using data <br />from the farm budget for a typical 160-acre farm for the Carlsbad <br />Project, <br /> <br />Direct Benefits. Direct benefits would be the net farm income <br />attributabTeTolrr~gati"n use of the salvaged water and are esti.mated <br />at $21,72 per acre or ~8.69 per acre-foot of water depletion, and about <br />$213$000 annually for the 24,490 acre-feet of water salvaged. <br /> <br />Indirect benefits, Indirect benefits c"rnprise the pr"fits of <br />local wh"lesalers ana retailers from sales of farm products resultant <br />from irrigation use of salvaged waters and c"nsumed locally off the <br />irrigated area with"ut processing; profits of all other enterprises <br />betvleen the farm and final consumer for handling, process ing, and <br />marketinG; increased sales of farm products locally and els~"here; and <br />profiits of all enterprises from supplying goods and services for <br />increased farm purchases) family livinG> and pr"crncti0n expenses, The <br />indirect benefits are estimated at ~3089 per acre or $25,55 per acre- <br />foot of river depletion, and about :.i626,000 annually for water salvaged. <br /> <br />Public benefits. Public benefito attirbutable to irrigation <br />use ,,1' the salvagp.d water include increase in personal and real taxes, <br />the farm labor income increase not included as direct benefit, and <br />stabilization of local and regional economies.
