At the University of New Mexico, <br /> <br />the Pack funds will be used in an adult education program in <br /> <br />watershed conservation. A cooperative Watershed Management Unit <br /> <br />was established within the College of Forestry and Range Manage- jOi ..' <br /> <br />'oJ" J'V <br />~!. L' OJ oJ <br /> <br />ment at Colorado State University in July 1958. <br /> <br />Our first efforts were directed toward the formation of an <br /> <br />undergraduate curriculum leading to a B.S. degree with a major <br /> <br />in watershed management. <br /> <br />This curriculum has recently been <br /> <br />approved and follows closely the recommendations of .the Society <br /> <br />of American Foresters CODulIittee on the Training of Men in Forest <br /> <br />Hydrology and Watershed Management.* <br /> <br />(Combination forestry, range <br />, <br /> <br />management, civil engineering, strong background in science and <br /> <br />mathematics} <br /> <br />The Pack Foundation ,~ <br /> <br />L indicated an interest in furthering <br /> <br />watershed management education particularly at the graduate level. <br /> <br />In response to this interest we now offer both the M.F. and M.S. <br /> <br />degrees with a major in watershed management and hope to be <br /> <br />equipped to offer the doctorate degree in the near future. <br /> <br />In further recognition of the need for professional training <br /> <br />in watershed management, the U.S. Forest Service authorized the <br /> <br />appointment of a research specialist to cooperate with the Unit <br /> <br />in its graduate program. Mr. Bert Goodell of the Rocky Mountain <br /> <br />Forest and Range Experiment Station was recently assigned to the <br /> <br />post.
