~ap131

June 29, 1993

Gunnison Planning Model - Info Theme No.9

Information Related to AB Lateral Hydropower Facility

The AB Lateral hydropower (ABHydro) facility is pre-designed, because it is part
of the Uncompahgre Valley Project and because it is not an on-channel powerplant like
all other power generation facilities which can be represented in the model. Users will
have the option of turning this facility "on" in any scenario. If the facility is activated,
users will be able to modify some parameters which are unique to this powerplant.

L Physical Capacity. Unlike all other powerplants, the ABHydro
facility's capacity may vary monthly, in order to allow users a
means of specifying seasonal limitations upon the operation of the
facility and seasonal demand for power generation. As explained
in the water rights section, below, the capacity of the facility
represents an implicit "demand." This demand may be satisfied
incidentally by water diverted for agricultural use by the UVP
canals located downstream from the tailrace of the ABHydro
facility. If such diversions, driven by the UVP's agricultural
demands, do not incidentally satisfy the capacity of the ABHydro
facility, then water may be diverted under the Gunnison Tunnel's
power rights to meet any remaining power "demand." Users will
be able to specify 12 X I values in CFS, which will be converted
to AF/month internally. The default values will be determined
from the proposed operating plan. (Right?)

2. Efficiency and Powerhead. Both of these parameters will be
specified as single values, which users will be able to modify
(similarly to Morrow Point and Crystal). The default values will
correspond to the facility's currently proposed design.

'd
"

________~-<L..ii.__-1_

~,,- ~- ,.___~"_,..:;,i~-->>_~_;,.,,

L~i~.i.,~' ',".'.
