I

OOOOJ7

I

STREAMFLO\f RECORDS

5

I

I

Gaging-Station Description

I

Gaging station locations are described in terms of latitude and
longitude and in relation to features that can be located in the field
or on a map. The size of drainage area is also given, modified if appro-
priate, where noncontributing areas are significant. Average discharge
is shown for the period of record used in processing the su~aries and
may differ slightly from figures of average discharge published in other
reports. The reason is that the average discharge is usually based on
the entire period of record including incomplete years, whereas the average
discharge in this series of reports is based only on the complete years of
record used in the statistical summaries.

I

I

I

Tabulations

I

Three tables are presented for each station; flow duration and high
and low-flow sequence. Unless retyping was necessary for some reason,
these tables were reproduced from direct print-outs from electronic computers,
one of which is a Datatron 220 used by the Geological Survey and the other,
an RCA 301 used by the Corps of Engineers. Using different computers accounts
for a slight, but discernible, difference in appearance of the tabulations
even though the same format was agreed on by both agencies and both agencies
used identical procedures and standards of accuracy in processing the basic
streamflow records.

I

I

I

Flow Duration

I

The flow-duration tabulations show the number of days in each water year
in each of some 20 to 35 class intervals of flow and the total cfs-days for
each water year. A summary follows this table showing the lowest discharge
in each class, the total number of days for the period of record in each class,
the cumulative number of days in each class beginning with the highest interval,
and the percent of time during the period of record that the lowest discharge
in each class was either equalled or exceeded.

I

I

High-Flow Sequence

I

The high-flow-sequence tabulations show the highest mean discharge for
consecutive periods of 1, 3, 7, 15, 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, 183, and 274 days
in each water year. The maximum instantaneous peak flow is also presented for
each year, where available, as well as the mean annual discharge for the water
year.

I

I

I
