diamster cast iron slide gates (remaining inlets) and two 48-
inch butterfly valves (one controls all of the inlets and the
other only the lowest inlet). The alvations of the inverts at
the inlets of the multilevel intake conduit are 4774.0, 4803.0,
and 4836.0 feet mal. It should be noted thst there is only one
(j' 7" x 8' 10" bulkhead gate in the south outlet works and it
controls both the single-level intake conduit and the lowest
inlet of the multilevel intake conduit. The south outlet works
will supply municipal and industrial water to a treatment plant
to be constructed downstream of ths dam. The maximum discharge
will be regulated to 345 c.f.s.
(5) Bessemer Ditch Outlet Works. The Bessemer Ditch
Outlet Works is located in the right embankment near station
29+77. The outlet works is a gated reinforced concrete conduit
837 feet long. The inlet side is a 7-foot-diameter conduit 412
feet long. The control section, where the water is divided and
controlled by four 3'6" x 3'6" high-pressure gates in a parallel-
tandem arrangement, is 71.5 feet long. The outlet side of the
conduit is a 9'6" x 6'4" modified horseshoe and 353.5 feet long.
The Bessemer Ditch supplies irrigation water and is regulated to
R maximum diacharge of 392.65 c.f.s.
2-04. Related Control Facilities. Ralated control facilitias
are the Pueblo Floodway and the Pueblo Floodway Levee Extension.
The Pueblo Floodway was built in 1924-25 by the Pueblo Conservancy
District. The floodway is a concrete trapezoidal channel approxi-
mately 10,000 feet long, extending through the city of Pueblo,
and the present capacity is approximately 110,000 c.f.s. In
1952, the Corps of Engineers built the Pueblo Floodway Levee
Extension on the lower end of the Pueblo Floodway. The levee
extension protects an urban area of important industrial and
transportation facilities from flooding by the backwater of the
Arkansas River.
2-05. Real Estate Acquisition. An area of 17,863 acres was
purchased for the dam and reservoir and their associated functions.
About 45 percent of this acreage is allocated for the dam and
reservoir at the maximum water surface level (4919.00 feet mal).
The remainder of the land is allocated for recreation (27 percent)
and wildlife (28 percent), which is above elevation 4919.00 feet mal.
