<br />,.' <br /> <br />Chcmical Oualitv of GroundHater <br /> <br />Yuma Nesa and San Luis Nesa Area <br /> <br />There is a ldde range in the chemical quality of 1,a ter in <br />the Yuma area, both geographically and in the various rock <br />units in the subsurface. Recharge "ater enters the system from <br />several different sources and chemical changes take place; such <br />as, from concentration by evaporation, ion exehange and precipi- <br />tation of insoluble constituents. <br /> <br />The chemical quality of groundl;ater beneath, Yuma Hesa has <br />been affected by infiltrated Colorado River water, somevhat <br />concentrated by evapotranspiration. In the southern part of <br />Yuma ~lesa the dissolved solids content ranges from about 900 to <br />1,100 milligrams per liter. <br /> <br />Raymond Hill studied the chemical content of groundw-ater <br />from the Yuma Hesa area and several of his perticnt cOllclueions <br />are as follmvs: <br /> <br />, <br />i <br />I <br />-i <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />"It is apparent from the geoehemical plotting of the che!llical <br />analyses and from the geographic distribution of the II'ell <br />wa-t-e-rs-conta--i:rnng--J.ri-gh-vercerrta'ge-s-o-r-s'o'diU1\l ana 0 fClIT oriCle , <br />that the groundwaters underlying Yuma Nesa, some of Yuma <br />Valley, and all of the Sonora Nesa adjacent to the Yum" <br />Nesa differ markedly frol'l the lwters of Colorado TIiver <br />at Impcrial Dam and from the probable percolate fro~ <br />irrigated lands an Yuma ~Iesa. On the contrary, it is <br />evident that: <br /> <br />1. The Concentration of dissolved solids in the water <br />from wells distributed aver the entire arca, exeept <br />from those ncar the center of the major irrigated hody of <br />land 011 lmlla ~lesa, is less thall the probable coneentration <br />of dissolved solids in the percolate from irrigated lands <br />supplied ldth "ater from the Colorado Hiver. <br /> <br />2.
