Approximate Arcas of Ground"oater Reserves

The physical boundaries of the deltaic aquifer comprise
the Gila Mountains on the-eastern side; Sierra de las Cucapas,
massiff on the western side in Nexico; and the Cargo Muchacha,
Chocolate Mountains and Laguna Hountains form the northern
bloeks (Figure A-6). The apex of the delta lies north of Yuma
in United States and from this apex the materials thicken to the
west and south"ard. The southern boundary of the groundwater
reservoir is the saline-water interface which occurs south of
the 32-degree parallel.

In gross aspect, the ground.,ater reservoir extends over an
area of approximately 2,800 square miles; about one-third in
the United states and t,,,o-thirds in Mexico. Based on available
data, it has been estimated there are more than 300 million
acre-feet of recoverable usable groundl,'ater in the vast sub-
terranean systcm; approximately 100 million acre-feet in United
States and 200 million acre-feet in Mexico.
