<br />e <br /> <br />PROJECT PLAN <br /> <br />Central Utah project (initial phase) <br /> <br />The Central Utah project (~i tia.l phase) will be an extensive under- <br />taking to deyelop 'Water. reflources of the Uinta Basin, a segment of the <br />Colorado River Basin in northeaste't'n utah. Part of the developed water <br />will be conveved westward for use :.n the Bonneville Basin in CentTal Utah <br />and the rema~der will be used in the Uinta Bas:l.n. Reserv~irs with a total <br />capacity of about 1,663,000 acre-feet will make water available for about <br />28,600 acres of full service la.nd and about l3l~800 acres of supplemental <br />seryicc 11IDd. Four project powerplants will have a combined installed <br />capacity of 61,000 kilowatts. Approximately 48,800 acra-feet of wotar will <br />be pro'\dded armue,lly for municipal, i,1duct~.al, a'1.d miscellaneou.s 1:.ses. <br />The projact will preville recreational benefits and ",1.11 have val:J.e in flood <br />and sadiment control. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />The r-otential Strawberry aqueduct will intercept flows of Rock Creek <br />ond stree.Il!.s 'West of Rock Creek. It will convey the '\oroter to the existing <br />Stra.\1berry Reservoir on Strawberry Ri ~ler which will be enlarged through <br />CO!lstructio:'l of Soldier Creek Dem G.owustream from the present dam. The <br />existing ottt.let tunnal from the reservoir will l:e enlarged. This tunnel <br />CO:'lveys water westward through tho Wasatch Mountain di. vide to the Bonne~ <br />viIle Ba3in. In descending the woast slope of the Wass.tch Mounta.ins" the <br />water ,nll pess through a series of four powerplants. In the Bonneville <br />Basin the water will be used in an ares. extending from Salt Lake City <br />south 80 miles to Nephi. Part of the use will be effected by exchanges <br />involving the ,,,aters of Utah Lake, Provo River" and other streams. These <br />exchanges will require construction of Bates Dam on Provo River, Hobble <br />Creek Dam on Little Hobble Creek, and the Front Dam near Salt Lalte City. <br />Transmission line3 will be constructed to serve local market areas and to <br />interconnect with the main grid transmission s;ystem. <br /> <br />New project works to provide water for repla.cement and expanded irri- <br />g.3tion and municipal use in tile Uinta Basin will include Hanna. Reservoir on <br />the North Fork of the Duchesne River, Starvation Reservoir on Strawberry <br />River with a feeder cana.l from the DU.chesm~ River, the Upalco Reservoir off- <br />stream. from Lake Fork River, the Stanaker Reservoir ",'1 th feeder canal from <br />Ashley Creek and a service canal (Vernal unit), and Tyzack Reservoir on <br />Brush Creek. <br /> <br />Emery County project <br /> <br />The Emery County project will be in the headwaters of the San Rafael <br />River in east-central Utah. It will provide irrigation 'Water for about <br />3,600 acres of full service land and 20,500 acres of supplemental service <br />land and will provide for recreational opportunities.
