Riverside District also has a May 31, 1907 direct decree
of 417 cfs [Dille, 1960]. Riverside owns 41 shares of the
w~ldon Valley Ditch [Osborne, 1978].

Estimates of acreage irrigated under the Riverside system range

frbm 22,500 [Caneva, 1977] to 24,000 [Osborne, 1978]. Of this

acreage, less than one-quarter is amenable to ground water

ir~igation [ibid]. The combined flow delivered to lands in the

RiVerside system from both river and reservoir sources is on

the order of 1.5 acre-feet per acre [Osborne, 1978].

Se~page Losses

se~page losses in the Riverside Canal vary as a function of ditch

head and time of the irrigation season. with conditions of

fUfl head and steady run, seepage may range upward to 40 percent.

Outing the first 10 ,days when water is run at the onset of

irrigation, on-farm delivery versus flow introduced to the canal

eq$ates to 50 percent. Later on, the efficiency increases to

ap@roximately 67 percent [Osborne, 1978].

Op$rating Procedures

Th~ Riverside system maintains agreements with the Bijou

Ir~igation Company, the Weldon Valley Ditch and the Smith-Snyder

Di~ch for exchange of water [Caneva, 1977]. Colorado-Big

Th~mpson water occasionally supplies some of the water to the

Riverside system.
