Prior to manipulation by man, <br />ch,'aracter of the river exclusively reflected the extremely <br />v~iable nature of the regional hydrologic and climatic regimes. <br />Flbws were typically seasonal. stage ranged from zero to flood. <br />Re~ource development activity has greatly modified the ancestrial <br />na~ure of the river. Specific features and associated <br />rafuifications of such development, the focus of this report, <br />: <br />wi~l be detailed and assessed in subsequent portions of this <br />inlrestigation. <br /> <br />,;; <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />.. <br />} <br /> <br />A? <br />"-l <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Inladdition to accommodating the main-stem South Platte, the, <br /> <br /> <br />So~th Platte River Valley from Kersey to Balzac encompasses portionsl <br /> <br />of'the following tributary drainages: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Crow Creek <br /> <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Box Elder Creek <br /> <br /> <br />Kiowa Creek <br /> <br /> <br />Bijou Creek <br /> <br /> <br />Badger Creek <br /> <br /> <br />Wildcat Creek <br /> <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Beaver Creek. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />These tributaries serve as sources of recharge to the South Platte <br /> <br /> <br />as:well as to their own respective alluvial ground water basins. <br /> <br /> <br />Tributary streamflow to the South Platte is emphemeral in nature. <br /> <br /> <br />FlQoding is not uncommon. The channels of tributaries generally <br /> <br /> <br />se~ve to collect and concentrate ground water inflow.
