Two major hydrologic investigations werc initiated in 1977 for

t~e purpose of evaluating water resource availability, use, and

management in the South Platte Hiver valley during periods of

d~ought. These studies are as follows:

Platte" by Resource Consultants, Incorporated,

Fort Collins, Colorado, from funds made

available by the Emergency Drought Act of 1977,

sponsored by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation,

administered by the Governor's Office, Drought

Coordinator;

of the State Engineer, State of Colorado Division

of Water Resources, and sponsored by the U.S. Bureau

individual components of water supply and disposition within the

South Platte River valley in terms of their relation to the

in~egrated, basin-wide hydrologic system. Assessment of the
