A report coverin3 this plan <br />of dcvelorrnent and representinG c. fr=evor]~ for use as tt guide to futw'e <br />;101'1, was completed on June 30, 1955, end ,ms subsequently transmitted to <br />the President on lCay 18, 1956, end by the Director of the Bureau of the <br />BudGet to the ConGress on June 18, 1956. Anticipating the. completion of <br />its mission, the Committee advised the Inter"Agency Committee on Water <br />Resow'ces that it considered the Committee would be dissolved as of <br />June 30, 1955. <br /> <br />However, as a result of expressions of State and Federal interest <br />in the need and desirability for a continuinG coordInatinB body in the <br />basins, the Inter-Agency Committee on Water Resources ~pproved on June <br />14, 1955, a charter for a new Arl,ansas-~nlite-Red Bnsins Inter-Agency <br />Committee to be activated as soon as practicable after July 1, 1955. <br />The principal purpose of the new Committee, as set forth in the charter, <br />are: to provide, at the reGional level, for improvement of coordination <br />of acti vi ties in the field of water ,md related land resources and to <br />provide means by ,{hich inter-aGency problems in this field may be re- <br />solved; to sugGest to the Inter-AGency Committee on Water Resources and <br />the sfates chanGes in law or policy uhieh ,muld promote these purposes; <br />and, to collect and interpret b:lsic data. A copy of this charter is <br />included as Appendix A to this report. <br /> <br />The three basins, ,rhieh incJ.ude all or 11 part of eight states, reach <br />fl'om the Hississil'Pi River to the Continental Divide and total one-eleventh <br />of the area of the United States, have a wide variety of gcographic and <br />economic conditions, problems, and opporttmities. Coordination of water <br />Gnd related land resources activities is especially important in much of <br />this area. <br /> <br />PART B. <br /> <br />ORGANIZATION <br /> <br />The Committee held its initial meeting in Tulsa, Oklahom~, on <br />September 15, 1955, electinG the Departmcnt of the At--my as Chainnan flgcney <br />for the remainder of the year 1955-56.
