(2) A similar wall map for mounting in each member' 5 headquarters, port-
ability of little consequence; and (3) A smull hand~out type of map for .
information and public relations purposes, details of coverage to be con-
siderably greater and to a higher degree of technical accuracy than for
the wall maps. The Committee was directed to investigate the various
methods available to best satisfy these needs and to mwte subsequent
recommendations to AWRBIAC.

.

After considerable investigation of existing maps and possible
processes for producing a new map, the Ad Hoc Committee recommended as
follows to. AWRBIAC at the May meeting wi th respect to the wall map for
Committee meeting use: Considering both portability and cost, the map
should be prepared on nylon to permit folding into a small package for
ease of transporting. The map base is to be taken from the new.Arrrry Map
Service Strategic Map with a scale of 1/500,000, which would result in a
.map approximately 8 by 10 feet in size. Coverage will include existing
and authorized projects, both federal and nonfederal; state boundaries;
principal cities near projects; stream and drainage bas~ns; and an indica-
tion. of topography through shading. The Committee further recommended
that the work be done by one of the Federal agencies that is a member of
AWRBIAC and equipped to do such work, and that a technical committee com-
posed of the Corps of Engineers lllld the Departments at' Agriculture and
Interior be designated to work with the technicians assigned to produce
the map to assure proper and complete coverage as work progresses. The
Ad Hoc Committee estimates the cost of the map to be $1,000.00 to
$1,200.00, such cost to be prorated among the Federal agencies.

The recommendations of the Ad Hoc Committee were unanimously accepted
by AWRBIACj and the Corps of Engineers with assistance t'rom the Bureau of
Reclamation was designated to produce the map. Preliminary plans with
respect to technical processes have. been explored jointly by the Corps ot'
Engineers and the Bureau of Reclamation, and work on the map is scheduled
to start in July 1956. .

The Ad Hoc Committee reported, with respect to the other two map needs,
a wall map for members and the desk or h8J1d-out type map, that further in-
vestigation was necessary before recommendations could be made. Detailed
study is now being given to these tlfO items and the Ad Hoc Committee expects
to make recommendations early in the year 1956-57. .

,

Two ad hoc committees were appointed by the Acting Chairman, E. V.
Lindseth, Department of Interior representative, at the New Orleans meeting
on March 8, 1956. The Ad Hoc Committee on Hydrological Coordination com-
posed of the Federal Power Commission, Chairman; the Corps of Engineers;
the Departments of Agriculture 8J1d Interior; and the States of Arkansas ~~d
Colorado, was given as its specific function and assignment the duty and
responsibility to: (a) Ascertain the facts with respect to the areas of
conflict in hydrologic coordination that developed during the course of the
preparation of the AWR Report; (b) Analyze such facts and endeavor to
sharpen issues that developed; (c) Ascertain the facts with respect to the
present status of research programs under way to determine the effect of

.

7
