California Rock Salt Company was low bidder <br />and was awarded a contract to. deliver salt over a three-year <br />period, Under the terms of this contract the cost of salt to the <br />District will be appreciablv less than under an existing contract <br />which terminates May 10, 1947, <br />Investigations were continued to determine the most satisfactory <br />method of producing salt for use at the softening and filtration <br />plant, from Government owned lands in the vicinity of Danby Dry <br />Lake, The District has aj,plied for a lease on 1600 acres of these <br />salt-bearing Government lands and it is anticipated that the lease <br />will issue as soon as land surveys can be made, These investiga- <br />tions included a determination. from latest available information. <br />of the extent, depth, and volume of recoverable salt on the lands <br />included in the pending lease, and also on other properties in the <br />same general vicinity.
