<br />z .~~ i) <br /> <br />2P. <br /> <br />~l E T R (, POLl T ,\ N \\' ,\ T [R n 1ST R 1 <: T <br /> <br />Under the provisions of this contract. the Flood Control District <br />may use a portion of the storage space in the reservoir for flood <br />control purposes in conjunction with its other flood control works <br />in San Gabriel Canyon, and the Association may use wch facilities <br />to aid in the salvage and appropriation of certain flood waters of <br />the San Gabriel River. , <br />Specifically, the contract. allots to the Metropolitan Water Dio- <br />trict the use of fiO per cent of the capacity of the reservoir for the <br />first six years of the contract and an additional 10 per cent of the <br />over-all capacity for each "ix-year period thereafter until, at the <br />end of 30 years, 100 per cent of t.he capacity of the reservoir will bc <br />available to the District. It is provided that the excess capacity <br />of the reservoir over and above that allotted to the Water District <br />shall be operated for the uenefit of and in accordance with the <br />directions of the Flood Control Ilistrict. for flood control and con. <br />servation pllrpose~, for a period of 15 years with certain provisioI1~ <br />for an extension of the term, To the extent con"istent with the <br />Water District's rights and those of the Flood Control Diotrict. the <br />reservoir may also be operated for the purpose of serving the <br />Association's rights in salvaging such portion of the flood waters <br />of the river as may be allocated to the Association by the State <br />Division of \Vater Resources. The rights granted the A,"ociation <br />are for a period of :10 years from t.he date of the contract, <br />The right of the Metropolit.an Water District to draw upon the <br />storage in the reservoir ill the €\'ent of an emergenc,y is reserved, <br />and provision is made for t.he appropriation by the District from <br />the flood waters of the San Gabriel River of an amount estimated <br />to be sufl1cient to keep the reservoir filled under normal circum- <br />stances. In the event, however. that the District should require <br />water in excess of that available through appropriation, the Dis- <br />trict shall release to the San Gabriel Valley from its Colorado <br />River aqueduct an amount equindellt to the eXC€:-lR drawn from <br />storage in l\'Iorris reservoir. <br />For the rights and privileges thus granted, the Flood Contl'Ol <br />District has agreed to pay the Metropolitan \Vater District the <br />sum of $20,000 for each year of its active participation in the use <br />of Morris reservoir, such amount to be adjusted for loss of tiRe <br />during desilting operations. <br />Coincident with the contract heretofore mentioned.. the \rVaLer <br />District entered into a contract with the United States, granting <br />the Navy Department the use of the reservoir for the purpose of <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />j <br /> <br />'J <br />
