<br />.'~ <br /> <br />UC-700 <br />2/28/73 <br /> <br />Preliminary Summary Sheets <br />Grand Mesa Project, Oolorado <br /> <br />Location <br /> <br />West-central Colora.do near the town of' Cedaredge in the G=ison River <br />BaSin, a part of the Upper Colora.do River Basin. <br /> <br />Present Status <br /> <br />Named by the 00lorado River Storage Project Act (P.L. 485) April ll, 1956, <br />as a potential participating p:roject,~ feasibility investigations were in- <br />itiated in FY 1963. The Proposed Reg~onal Director's Feasibility Report <br />has been completed and distributed rOT review by local, State, and Federal <br />interests. The Proposed Draft of Project's Environmental 'Statement has <br />also been completed and distributed vith the report. <br /> <br />Total investigation costs to June 30~ 1972, including appraisal (recon- <br />naissance) and feasibility, amount ~$772,129. <br /> <br />During the course of the Grand Mesa ~nvestigations the State of Colorado <br />and local interests contributed a ~siderable amount of funds to expedite <br />the studies. These costs are included in the investigation costs previ- <br />ously referred to. <br /> <br />Revisions to the report and related ~rk items will be accomplished in <br />FY 1974 under the program item "Minor Work in Connection with Completed <br />P . tIt' t. n <br />rOJec nves ~ga lons. <br /> <br />Plan of Development <br /> <br />The Grand Mesa Project would develop ~ter of streams tributary to the <br />Gunnison River and its North'Fork for irrigation, municipal and domestic <br />use, recreational development, and r~sh and wildlife enhancement. Also <br />it would aid area redevelopment by :pift'oviding job opportunities. <br /> <br />Project storage would be provided a~ElectricMountain Reservoir on West <br />Muddy Creek and the offstream Cact~ Park Reservoir. Both reservoirs <br />would receive water by feeder canals Trom near~ streams. Cactus Park <br />Reservoir also would receive relea~esfrom Electric MOuntain Reservoir <br />conveyed between the two reservoirs ~y the Grand Mesa Canal. The Grand <br />Mesa Canal would intercept flows or ~~reams along its course and would <br />provide water to some adjacent lands,. <br /> <br />Irrigation water would be distribute~ from Cactus Park Reservoir by the <br />Cedaredge Canal, the Lower Redlands -Lateral, and existing laterals that <br />would be enlarged or rehabilitated ~s necessary by the water Users. ~fu- <br />nicipa1 and domestic water would be, 'lawailable from Cactus Park Reservoir <br />in the Cedaredge Canal or, to the e~~ent water is available, it could be <br />obtained from the reservoir feedeJr oeanal or from direct streamflows in <br />exchange for reservoir releases prov~ded to downstream users. <br />
