l\:) Reclamation selected a preferred plan for the
~
00 Dirty Devil River unit in 1985. The plan is to inject saline
00
water from the Hanksville South Salt Wash and Emery South
Salt Wash into injection wells about 3500 feet deep.
A decision was made, following consultation with the
Forum, to defer further investigation of the Glenwood-
Dotsero Springs Unit. A draft planning report was sent to
Washington on September 30, 1985.
In the Saline Water Use and Disposal Opportunities Unit,
a letter of agreement was completed for cost-sharing field

investigations of saline. water use equipment at the Southern

California Edison Company's Etiwanda Power plant near

Ontario, California. Equipment design and an operational

plan for installation and operation of the verification

facilities were completed in FY 1985 and installation is

underway.
The contract study of the use of saline water in the Jim

Bridger power plant found that when the costs of well

collection features and pipelines costs are included, the
total cost-effectiveness estimates for using Big Sandy River
flows were not competitive with other salinity control units
at this time. A "Final Report on the Jim Bridger Power
Plant" was given wide distribution.

In March 1985, Reclamation and Western Resource

Transport, Inc. signed Modificatipn No. 2 to a Cooperative

Agreement betweeen the two parties. This agreement spells

-12-
