politan' Area were made by the ICRPC in August, 1965. population in the

four counties of Adams, Arapahoe, Denver, and Jefferson from 1940 to 2000,

as estimated by ICRPC, is given in Table I.

(a) U. S. Census figures as of April 1.
(b) As of January 1.

The total figure of 1,390,000 for 1980 is a reduction from the 1,550,000
population estimated by ICRPC in 1961 for the same four counties.

The average annual rates of increase per county in the 1960-1965 period

are lower than those for the 1950-1960 period. This indicates that the

growth is slowing down in all four counties.

Denver's annexations in the southwest and southeast areas give it room

to grow. ICRPC expects Denver's population to increase slowly if the City's

present annexation policies are pursued. Adems, Arapahoe, and Jefferson coun-

ties are expected to grow at a slower pace than in the past 15 years.
