l."r.~
~0\...'

.

Plan of Development

The reservoir area would be cleared to Bureau of Reclamation
standards and criteria, modified to the extent practicable to reflect
the recommendations of Federal and State agencies concerned with
recreation and fish and wildlife development. Reservoir rights-of-
way would be fenced to the extent needed for proper management and to
fulfill recreation and fish and wildlife requirements.

A one-family dwelling would be provided at the dam for the
reservoir superintendent. A garage and shop would be located near
the house. Facilities would be installed to measure reservoir inflow
and outflow.

CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS

Suitable materials for impervious and pervious embankment and
the downstream blap~et of topsoil are available in the vicinity of
the damsi te.

.

Coarse pervious material for the gravel blanket under the riprap
is not available in the vicinity of the dam. Two sources, II and 13
miles from the damsite, were located which, with some selection in the
areas, should not require processing.

Fine concrete aggregate material is available in the flood plain
of the South Platte River upstream and downstream from the damsite.
Satisfactory sources of coarse aggregate material were located at
Greeley, Colo., and along Clear Creek between Golden and Denver, Colo.
Another source to be considered is at Big Springs, Nebr.

Three sources of riprap were considered: the Fremont Butte,
three to four miles northwest of Akron, Colo.; the southwest Akron
area, eight to nine miles southwest of Akron, and the Ralston quarry
near Golden, Colo. Quality-of-rock tests and haulage-cost studies
indicated that the Ralston quarry is preferable.

Suitable material for road and highway construction is available
in the area. Material for railroad ballast, acceptable to the Union
Pacific Railroad, can be obtained from their own Sherman Hill Quarry
in Wyoming, l26 miles from Fort Morgan, Colo.

.

2l
