As a result, ADeps use multiple beams pointed in
different directions to measure cwo or three orthogonal velocity
components. Beams are positioned 90 degrees apart horizontally and at
an angle of 20 or 30 degrees from vertical. Appendix E presents
details of ADCPs and a diagram of the boat mounted system used in this
study.

RESULTS

Powerplant Sieve Netting

Five fish species were collected; kokanee salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka) ,
lake trout (Salvelinus namaycush), rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus
mykiss), white sucker (Catostomus commersoni) and brown trout (Salmo
trutta). Kokanee salmon constituted 96 percent of the fish collected
from the sieve net over 3 years. Appendix A presents specific
information on dates, time, and numbers of fish collected. The sieve
net was fished for a total of 120 hours (June 30 - November 29) in
1994, producing 15 fish, 495.1 hours (April 26 - November 2) in 1995,
producing 720 fish, and 155.2 hours in 1996, yielding 147 fish (June
25 - August 29).

Stream runoff and consequent dam discharge, was lower in 1994,
compared to either 1995 and 1996, with 1995 the highest water year
with all dam discharges above about 3295 CFS being bypassed through
hollow-jet valves into the river below the dam. Also, in 1995 and
1996 both generators were run on a relatively regular schedule during
the spring and summer.

Blue Mesa Powerplant 1995
AVERAGE TOTAL LENGTH OF COllECTED KOKANEE

160

\50

140

~
E \30
E
~
..c: 120
0.
c:: 110
~
-a loa
-
o
Eo< 90

80

70

60
a'""f,....:,.Q.Mw...~N~a"~'.l~:I'i'.w~~""'f'w:..6-J'f1~"~~17~a..J'f~I.J8I-A:A~~~A~iA~"~~...:.-

TIME

Figure 4.
net at Blue

Average kokanee size collected
Mesa Powerplant, 1995.
11

by

seive
