0022~8

.

.

~. Summary. The several Corps of Engineers projects are
shown on the Reference Map and the reservoirs are listed in table 5.

11. BUREAU OF RECLAMATION

~. Bonny Dam. Bonny Dam and Reservoir on South Fork Repub-
lican River, in Colorado, was completed in May 1951. It has a
conservation and sediment pool of 41,000 acre-feet and flood con-
trol storage capacity of 129,000 acre-feet. The project was con-
structed as an emergency flood control measure prior to completion
of irrigation plans. The Bonny Dam controls the runoff from a
contributing drainage area of 1,495 square miles and a gross area
of 1,875 square miles.

~. Trenton Dam. Trenton Dam on the Republican River was
completed in 1953. The conservation pool and sediment reserve of
120,000 acre-feet form Swanson Lake, which has an area of 4,974
acres. In addition, the reservoir has a flood control allocation
of 134,000 acre-feet. The gross drainage area at the damsite is
7,766 square miles, of which 5,891 square miles lie below Bonny
Reservoir. Filling of Swanson Lake was started in May 1953 but,
because of the low rate of inflow during the drought years, the
conservation pool was not filled until May 1957. Swanson Lake is
the largest of four reservoirs in the Frenchman-Cambridge Irriga-
tion Division upstream from Harlan County Reservoir.

~. Enders Dam. Enders Dam and Reservoir on Frenchman Creek
provides irrigation water for the Frenchman Unit and control of
flood flows from 2,240 square miles of area above the damsite, of
which less than one-half is directly contributing. Enders Reser-
voir was placed in operation in 1950, with 44,000 acre-feet of
sediment reserve and water conservation storage and a flood con-
trol storage allocation of 30,000 acre-feet. The normal pool forms
a lake of 1,707 acres.

~. Red lY11lm/Dam. Red Willow Dam and Reservoir was trans-
ferred from the Corps of Engineers (as shown in the report under
review) to the Bureau of Reclamation for construction and adminis-
trative jurisdiction by Public Law 50S, 84th Congress, 2nd session,
in May 1956. It is one of the four reservoirs in the Frenchman-
Cambridge Division, and has a sediment reserve-conservation storage
capacity of 38,000 acre-feet, which at full pool forms Hugh Butler
Lake of 1,628 acres. The reservoir controls runoff from a gross
drainage area of 632 square miles and has a flood control capacity
of 50,000 acre-feet. The project was completed in 1961.

~. Medicine Creek Dam. Medicine Creek Dam forms Harry Strunk
Lake, the fourth reservoir in the Frenchman-Cambridge Irrigation
Division. The reservoir, which was completed in 1949, has a normal

15
